Basketball team University of Tartu

The basketball team of the University of Tartu is one of the oldest and most successful basketball teams in Estonia with a history of more than 60 years.

The team that once again carries the name of the University of Tartu, participates in four series in the 2016/2017 season – the FIBA Champions Cup or the FIBA Europe Cup, Triobet Baltic League, Alexela Basketball Champions League and the Estonian men’s cup.

Under the TÜ/Rock name, the team has reached the finals every year over the past 16 years and has won the Estonian Champion’s title seven times, the last time was in the 2014/2015 season. The team has won third place in the Baltic league twice – in the 2008/2009 and 2013/2014 season. They reached the finals in the Baltic league in 2015/2016, where they were defeated by Šiauliai after a fierce battle, taking home the silver medals.
Their best performance in the FIBA series was in the 2007/2008 season when they played in the Final Four tournament. In the 2013/2014 season, they got really close to reaching the finals, but dropped out after quarter-finals.
The basketball scene of Tartu and South-Estonia got a boost in the year 1999 when the representative team was called University of Tartu / Delta. After winning the champion’s title again after 22 years, the Tartu basketball team once again rose to the top in Estonia, where they have remained ever since.
Over the years, several legendary basketball players have been a part of the team, such as Ilmar Kullam, Heino Raudsik, Jaak Lipso, Arne Laos, August Sokk and Aleksei Tammiste, but also Jaak Aaviksoo, Toomas Tein, Priit Vene and many other famous people.
